BVNA applied for and was awarded a grant to create a Strategic Work Plan for our association. We plan to use this opportunity to better engage with and serve our community.
We created the Strategic Work Plan by involving community residents and other stakeholders from across Beaverdam Valley (BV) in a process to create a dynamic vision for the BV community. By developing a Plan for the BNVA board. We created a plan that captures residents’ input and adjust to changing neighborhood needs. This Plan provides guidelines for BVNA to help BV achieve its goals of a safe and vibrant community consistent with the unique character of the Valley.
As one of the largest neighborhoods registered with the City of Asheville with a population of 5,287 residents, BV needs a well-organized and informed board able to partner with the City of Asheville to provide a voice for its residents. With such a geographically large and populous neighborhood there is a great need for a strategic vision that will position BVNA to better serve its community.
Our approach included identifying community priorities, engaging community stakeholders, and working closely with partners to help BVNA to develop a strategic plan and goals with yearly benchmarks.
Our goals are to create a strong, long-lasting association with increased neighbor involvement, an expanded range of social opportunities, and a framework to guide our advocacy work.
Our methodology to accomplish the project included the following:
- We Identified and retain a consultant who specializes in working with local non-profit community-based organizations as those organizations develop strategic plans
- We held meetings and workshops with the consultant to identify methods of achieving our goal of a strategic work plan
- We developed and disseminated, in conjunction with the consultant, a method to ascertain neighborhood priorities
- We identified best practices to recruit people to join the board and its various committees
- We informed the neighbors of the strategic vision for BVNA in its role of supporting our community
